Pre Blog Post: Flu Epidemic!

Hey guys! I’ve been writing this blog post for the past week or so. Unfortunately, I forgot to save the original post, and accidentally deleted the 2nd blog post. (When will I learn?) So, I want to touch bases on the Flu, how scary it is, and how to keep yourself and your offsprings protected throughout the flu and cold seasons.

Come on, all humans should know how to prevent the spread on germs, right? Our hands are the nastiest part on our bodies, I mean we literally touch everything with our bare hands. (Microscopic germs lie amongst everything we touch)

The best way to get rid of those germs are to wash our hands, if you don’t have access to water and soap, use hand sanitizer or antibacterial wipes. Let’s be honest not all germs are bad, we need some germs to kick start our immune systems. However, I like to use preventative measures to protect myself and our 16 Month old daughter London.

I am a breastfeeding momma and the advice, I’m about to share is exclusively personal advice and what’s been working for us. (a little disclaimer lol) I digress… anyway I simply take my prenatal + 2 vitamin C capsules daily, I’ve come to realize the key in life is consistency.

So, vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin so it passes to your breast milk. I did a substantial amount of research on how our little ones get antibodies from our breast milk and how their automatically protected from certain viruses we’re exposed to, etc. I could go on and on about this topic… I’m definitely not one of those BREAST IS BEST people, but if you’re able to breastfeed your little one(s), I think you should!

I felt like I should go the extra mile to protect London and I from unwanted invaders. To be completely honest and transparent, when I first started taking the vitamin C capsules, I would take 1 (after breakfast) daily. I wasn’t sure how her system would process it and if it would affect my milk supply. Then, one day I felt myself getting sick and started taking 2 capsules daily.

Sometimes I’ll take 1 in the morning and the second capsules before bed.

For non breastfeeding moms you can definitely take vitamin C daily for yourself and just feed your offsprings a vitamin C enriched foods; like butternut squash, leafy green, blueberries are a great antioxidants, (purée if they aren’t of age or doesn’t have teeth), and make sure their taking their multi vitamins daily.

Let’s not forget about our husbands or significant others. I actually have my husband take Emergen C packets (Shhhh, I’m not germaphobic) daily and of course a healthy diet is always a plus as well!
