COMMON COLD VS ALLERGIES

COMMON COLD VS ALLERGIES

Welcome Back Ya'll! I'm a jump right in… Well before it was actually Spring-Time the flowers were blooming and so was the pollen, this year was announced to be really bad for those who suffers from seasonal allergies. With that information I had begun to give my oldest allergy medicine before bed, I suggested my husband and myself began to take our allergy medicine as well. I was still actively nursing the twins so I figured they would get some of the allergy medicine that I was taking…. Once the weather began to adjust and the green pollen got more potent, everyone in the house began sneezing, itchy watery eyes, itchy throats, etc. I immediately started to treat the symptoms, our oldest and youngest children's bodies began to regulate their immune response to the pollen and were fine, but not our middle daughter. Excuse the description in advance, Aubrey had so much mucus, I mean thick, constant mucus, I had tried every brand of children's allergy medicine, plus homeopathic remedies, nothing worked, finally I reached out to their pediatric doctor, he's an awesome doctor, but was puzzled after running various tests, and shortly after prescribing her some antibiotics and that did absolutely nothing.

We all know that you can't treat a common cold and or allergies with antibiotics, but this was maybe her seventh appointment within the last three months, which was usual for any of my children. We were all scratching our heads and trying to figure out what was going on with her toddler body, it wasn't until my mother suggested she get tested for allergies where we started to get some sort of answers, between the appointment which took longer than it should have, I decided to give her some Dimetapp on the bottle it says to not give if younger than 6 years old, I was a desperate mom who has tried every over the counter medicine from Zarbee's to Hylands, Nasal Sprays, Little Remedies, Maty's, but nothing worked although these are all wonderful brands, so I decided to try Dimetapp (1.5ml) and within three consecutive days her mucus began to harden and clear up.

Ya'll my baby could breathe again and get back to herself, I continued for the remainder of the week. That Friday the ENT doctor's office called to schedule her an appointment. I was so excited to get to the root cause of mucus and what her body was trying to get rid of or fight off! Then mom guilt began to set in, I started to question the decision I made to give her Dimetapp, fearing that the specialist wouldn't believe me LOL silly right? Moving on, my baby tonsils are enlarged and so are adenoids, unfortunately they can't remove them until she turns three years old.

Along with seasonal allergies, our baby is also allergic to pork, dairy, horses, various grasses, and the list continues. Since then, we have removed all food allergies, if we're heading out to a local park, we definitely give her antihistamine prior to avoid or lessen her symptoms. Moral of the story is if you feel as if something isn't right especially with your baby or toddler who can't express themselves seek a specialist if you've ruled out other possibilities. We used to LOVE bacon (pork), now I am even more obsessive with reading food labels and ingredients. Comment below if you've experienced a similar situation and Remember to Stay Encouraged.
